The Battle Cry of a Wild Thing

The Battle Cry of a Wild Thing: Three Simple Truths.

  1. You will never be like us.

You’ve adorned the walls that box you in, become accustomed to your cage.

But we’ll defy the chains that shackle us, only shattered bits of shallow images will remain.

You won’t see the flying dragons, you won’t hear the sirens’ wails.

We will dance around their firey breath, their songs will fill our sails.

You won’t taste the crystal river, you’ve forgotten how to thirst.

We will waste away before we let them spoon-feed us your curse.

No, you will never be like us, because you don’t want to be.

You will choose to pay the warden,

We will never sell our free.

  1. This is not a sacrifice, it’s a birthright.

A wild thing runs into the fire, knowing death is sure,

Yet it runs even faster, its purpose only pure.

It runs into the fire, it searches for the lights.

Those still left with beating hearts. Spirits worth the worthy fight.

It runs blindly without caution. Or fear for what will come.

We run because we HEAR their cries and we cannot be numb.

A wild thing never balances, calculates, or considers fate.

We wildly run, with the freedom of burning proudly in the flames.

We do not fear mortality, we did not come to win the fight.

We are the never-ending soldiers fighting emptiness with light.

We ARE the wall that will not fall, you will shudder at our might.

We’ve traveled a treacherous way to be here today, to be honored to stand and unite.

All we wanted was a purpose. To understand why we felt mal-aligned.

Suddenly wakened by your callous, gifted with consciousness, waiting for signs.

A soft cry became a chorus. Voices screaming in the night.

No longer mystery before us, we have finally found our right.

We rejoice to wear our shields of love. We’ve waited all our lives.

We know no fear, now finally here. Foot soldiers of the light.

Our voices though will echoe, our fires will inflame.

Battle cries to stir more wild things.

They will come to join our ranks.

  1. We will always be free.

You can never catch a wild thing. No, you will never cage my soul.

I’ll smile at you through bloodied lips, thankful that I know.

You may take away my body. Ha. But I am not the flesh you see.

You have tried to break my spirit, but instead you set me free.

It was you that made me see the walls, the dragons, and the slaves.

It was you that lit the fire. You that burnt me at the stake.

You thought that you could break me, make me easier to sway.

So I will take this time to thank you.

You made me what I am today.

You took everything away from me, all the trappings of the cage.

Now I see the price of illusion, and I refuse to pay.

You can have your false stability, but I won’t sell my voice.

You refuse to see the suffering, for us it’s not a choice.

You’re so afraid of wild things. Of a thing that can’t be bought.

You may tell us what to think, and see, and feel, but we will not.

You simply cannot understand a wild thing, you keep breaking us, making us saved.

Now I see a sea of a glittering wild things, fearless knowing we’ll always be free.

Please be leery of False Prophets

Be leery of false prophets, they are leading you astray.

They’ve read our words, and learned our hurts, now they regurgitate our pain.

They offer you condolence. Pretty words to stroke your mane.

They fill your heads with silly words, soothing fear with Novocain.

I hear them all around us, their voices muffling our doubt.

They’re quick to give you answers. Quick to show you their way out.

Be leery of false prophets, no one should PROFIT in God’s name.

You know the holy virtues yet you ignore their blatant shame.

They give you something sweet to eat to take away your reason,

Then they sell you something blasphemous, glorifying holy treason.

Don’t buy their books, their classes, please remember what you know.

No prophet can sell righteousness, you must find it on your own.

Stay far away from these false prophets. Do not let them steal our thoughts.

They’re using us to study how feeling humans speak to God.

They repeat what we have learned, never going through the struggle.

Then they wrap it in a bow to entice the mass into their bubble.

Do not ignore your feelings, these evil spirits will disturb you.

Know yourself, please don’t ignore the voice that speaks within you.

Be leery of false prophets. These times are grave indeed.

Continue on your spiritual journey. Be safe friends, promise me.

These vampires don’t understand you. They will never know our pain.

Their egos have consumed them. They want the world to know their name.

Treacherous times before us, but we still have our faith.

Modest disciples still in search of God. We cannot lose our way.

But,

I see you well, false prophets. Your presence sickens me.

I feel everyone’s intentions. You simply cannot hide your greed.

Your petty, selfish ways will soon expose you to the soldiers.

Those like me, put here to see to ending your destruction.

So Be leery of the Empaths.

I encourage you to stay away.

Some of us have had enough. We won’t be used for evil’s way.

Baby Song

We lived in a magical garden, shielded from steel and dismay.

Slept in the crevice of a nook in a nest, but always together were we.

Journeyed the world without fortune, fortunate to live everyday.

Felt the frigid snow mountains, the tropical trees, and the crush of the tepid teal waves.

With love alone we’ve traveled so far, and now a journey anew.

A seedling born from our imperfect love. Even more love for me and for you.

A Prayer to Be Broken

Idle, I was drifting.

barely sifting in your waves.

‘Til the day that you convinced me

merely sifting wasn’t saved.

So you tossed me in your tidal

and helpless I learned faith.

You cast me ‘gainst your rocky shores

and bloodied I felt bathed.

You stepped on me, and stepped along

and shattered I grew strength.

And washed ashore, so many more

of Us you made that day.

The Merry Pair

He was merry

She was merry

Merry they would be.

They would marry

persons married

Married with a deed.

Sold a merry

Stole a merry

Never she would be.

Just to marry

To be married

sold within a deed.

He was merry

she was merry

younger, lighter speed.

Sold his married

and Her merry

for a brighter breed.

Without merry

though She carried

his and Her love’s steed

There She buried

Their love’s merry

Stout and breathless breed.

Reflection Teddy Bear

Why are you standing there

you tethered bear

just staring back at me?

Your tethered hair

so patchy there

that I can barely see,

the teddy bear

they made with care

then packaged carefully,

sitting there

still wrapped with care

you waited patiently.

Caged up there

for all to stare

he chose you carefully.

You were his teddy bear

once made with care

but made to bear his needs.

Made to bear

his lack of care

His lack of decency.

Made too bare

He left you there

so tethered at the seams.

Why are you standing there

you tethered bear

just staring back at me?

Brush your hair

and don’t despair

you won’t be bearing me.

I’m not a tethered bear

with weathered hair

not ripping though it seems,

I’m just another bear

too worn to care

that now I’m finally free.

Best Friend Rape

i told them i was raped.

“How awful.” They said.
“What can we do.” They said.
“We’ll be here for You.” They said.

I told them i was raped.

“What’s going on?” They said.
“so Sad and Withdrawn.” They said.
“The Old you is Gone.” They said

I told them I was raped.

“you have to Forget.” They said.
“Be Happy again.” They said.
“you’re nobody’s Friend.” They said.

I told them I Was raped.

“you may be Confused.” They said.
“We don’t Know the Truth.” They said.
“Are you Sure He Forced you.” They said.

I Told them I Was raped.

“But He was A Friend.” They said.
“Men will be Men.” They said.
“What Did you Expect” They said.

I Told them I Was Raped. No.
I Told them, he. Raped. Me.

“It. Hurt.” I said.
“But It Hurts So Much More,” I said,
“More that my friends,” I said,
“Would Rape Me Again.”

Free

Come with me a while

Rest your weary mind.

Smiling is exhausting

If it’s hiding what’s inside.

Stay with me a moment

And let your body breath.

Poise becomes oppressive

It’s the only thing they see.

Play with me a pleasure

And close your tired eyes.

Seeing is a business

But feeling moves our lives.

Sit with me in present

And let your spirit be.

Protection is illusion.

Love is all we need.

A Peter Pan Kind Of Love

I try not to make a big deal,

not to hold you too tight when we hug.

Cannot say what it means

just knowing your being,

have to try not to make such a fuss.

I pretend that I’m perfectly stable,

like a four legged stainless steel table,

like I’ve done all my growing

and learned all my knowing,

have to prove that I’m perfectly able.

I have to make you think it’s me.

Slight rejection shows strength in a being.

So I sell you aloof like a gold-plated tooth,

just the shell of a tasteless deceiving.

But you must know the truth or I’ll die.

Just this once I will break from the lie:

I need you too greatly,

dependent innately,

I cherish you so much I cry.

So you see that I can’t make a fuss,

live in fear that I need your sweet hugs.

But I know that I do,

after all it is you,

and I’m sure that I love you too much.
